Product Description
Lightweight Sweatshirt Knit Fabric 180gsm 170cm Wide 47% Lyocell 10% Wool Stretch Knit For Sweatshirt Production
  • Most sweatshirt programmes are built on 280–320gsm fleece, which is why so many spring and autumn capsules feel heavy before they are even cut. This 180gsm knit gives you a sweatshirt hand without the bulk: 47% lyocell keeps the face smooth and cool to the touch, 10% wool adds a dry, warm note that acrylic alone cannot deliver, and 5% spandex holds the shape through repeated washing. At 170cm cuttable width, a single lay yields more panels than a 125cm article, which matters once you are cutting thousands of pieces.

What Each Fibre Does
  • Lyocell 47% —— Lyocell is the largest single component and it sets the character of the cloth. It gives a smooth, cool face against skin, moves moisture away rather than holding it, and adds a fluid drape that keeps a 180gsm knit from feeling papery. Without it, the same wool-acrylic ratio would read as a standard synthetic knit.
  • Wool 10% —— Ten percent is a small share but a noticeable one. Wool brings a dry, slightly crisp warmth that acrylic cannot imitate, and it buffers humidity as body temperature moves through the day. Kept at 10%, it adds character without pushing the fabric into wool-price territory or making it prickly against the neck.
  • Acrylic 38% —— Acrylic supplies the bulk and the even, wool-like surface that knitters expect, at a cost line far steadier than wool. It is also what keeps the garment light on the body. Its weakness — a tendency toward static and a synthetic feel when used alone — is largely offset here by the 47% lyocell sitting on the face.

  • Spandex 5% —— Five percent is enough to make a difference at the points that fail first: cuffs, hems, elbows and knees. It also lets a lighter fabric behave like a heavier one on the body, which is the whole premise of a 180gsm sweatshirt.
Performance in Wear
  1. Stretch and recovery. 5% spandex holds line at cuffs, hems, elbows and knees through repeated wash cycles. Recovery is tested per lot; reports available on request.
  2. Moisture and breathability. 47% lyocell moves moisture away from the skin instead of holding it, so the fabric does not go clammy under a jacket or in air-conditioned rooms.
  3. Warmth-to-weight. Wool and acrylic together give insulation at 180gsm that a 180gsm pure-cotton or pure-synthetic knit cannot match, without the 280–320gsm weight of fleece.
  4. Hand feel and drape. Smooth, dry face with a wool touch; the lyocell keeps the drape fluid so a light knit hangs in a clean line instead of standing
  5. Dimensional stability and shade consistency. Width, weight and shade are checked per roll before packing; within-lot and between-lot consistency is the point most reorders depend on.

FAQ

Q: What is 2x2 rib knit fabric used for?

A: 2x2 rib is a stretch knit with alternating two-knit, two-purl wales. It is used where recovery matters — cuffs, collars, waistbands, base layers, leggings and semi-fitted tops. In this 220 g/m² version it suits thermal underwear and mid-weight base layers rather than lightweight summer jersey.

Q: Is this fabric warm enough for winter base layers?

A: At 220 g/m² with 19% wool, yes for autumn through early spring and for indoor winter wear. For extreme cold or expedition use, a heavier weight or a higher wool content should be specified — both can be discussed as a development.

Q: Does it shrink or pill?

A: Both depend on fibre, finishing and washing method, so we do not quote a figure without testing. Shrinkage and pilling results are measured per lot and can be issued as a report with your bulk order.

Q: Can you dye to my Pantone colour?

A: Yes. We produce a lab dip for approval first, and the approved dip becomes the bulk standard. Shade continuity is checked lot by lot against that dip.

Q: Can you change the composition or weight?

A: Yes, within reason. Common requests are 180 g/m² for a lighter summer version, or a higher wool share for colder markets. Send the target spec and we will confirm feasibility, hand feel impact and price before sampling.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity of the fabric?

A: Our minimum order quantity is usually 300KG. If your order quantity is smaller, you can also discuss specific customization and procurement plans with us.

Q: Can I get a sample before ordering?

A: Yes. Sample yardage and lab dips are arranged before bulk, so your team can run wear, wash and stretch trials on the actual fabric.

Q: Can I get a discount if I place a bulk order?

A: Yes, we offer preferential prices for bulk orders.
